Wildlife Presentations

Naturalist Cabin at Russell Crossroads

Live turkeys of the domestic variety will be at the Naturalist’s Cabin for some serious turkey talk. In addition to the bird of honor, an assortment of items left behind by the Eastern Wild Turkey will be available for handling and instruction. Turkeys have interesting features including caruncles, a snood, spurs and a beard! Listen to turkey calls and practice your own. Take a selfie with a friendly live turkey! The whole family will enjoy watching the star of Thanksgiving strut its stuff. Appropriate for all ages. No charge—everyone is welcome!

Guided Nature Tour

Saturday, November 11, 12pm
Meet at Willow Point Cutoff Trailhead

Join us on an autumn expedition and note the changing of the seasons. Changes are happening everywhere as the animals and plants of Russell Forest prepare for upcoming low temperatures. We will spend time learning about how the forest changes into its fall wardrobe and discover the amazing features that allow this transition to happen. Impromptu discoveries always abound as we spend time in this outdoor classroom. Learn while you exercise! Appropriate for participants ages 5-105.

ADVANCE REGISTRATION REQUIRED! There is a $10 fee for this program. No charge for children under 12. Please contact our Naturalist at 256.496.2710 to inquire and to register.
