Everyone must believe in something. I believe I’ll go canoeing.

We are happy to announce that version 2.0 of the Russell Lands mobile app now includes nearly 65 miles of paddling routes skimming past 130 miles of beautiful Lake Martin shoreline. Comprised of 17 paddling routes and six put-in/take-out points, we call the network the Blueway.

Conceived by life-long paddling enthusiast and 30+ year Russell Lands forester Chris Brumlik, the Blueway system offers canoers, kayakers and paddleboarders something for everyone—expert and novice alike—all set in the peaceful beauty that is Lake Martin. We are grateful for the cooperation and assistance of several participating organizations including Alabama Power Company, Alexander City Parks & Recreation, Tallapoosa County, and the Alabama Scenic River Trail Organization.

The routes are located on the Tallapoosa River side of Lake Martin and stretch from Baker’s Bottom at the north to Doctor’s Island at the south. Thirteen of the 17 routes are “loops” where the paddler puts in and takes out at the same point. Four of the routes are “runs” where the paddler puts in at one launch point and takes out at another.

Using GPS geolocation, the Blueway map inside the Russell Lands mobile app allows you to locate yourself along the routes and, if you choose, log your treks with dates, miles paddled and more. It also provides vital information about each launch point, each route, basic on-water safety, and a paddling gear checklist.

A valuable resource in your hand

Users of previous versions of the Russell Lands mobile app also know that it’s the go-to resource for navigating the Russell Forest Trails system, keeping up with Russell Lands On Lake Martin events, and easily accessing information about our shops, restaurants, entertainment venues, marinas, and the business hours and contact information for each. Contacting any of them only takes a click! And now, you might need to contact the Adventure Center about renting a canoe or kayak.

The app is available for iPhone, iPad and Android devices in their respective app stores. Just search for “Russell Lands” or click the buttons below.
