Springtime Activities At Russell Lands

Published: 04.10.2013

After weeks of seemingly endless cold weather (sprinkled with the occasional warm day, just to tease us), Spring is finally starting to make an appearance around Lake Martin and we at Russell Lands couldn’t be more excited! The days are longer, the trees and flowers are starting to bloom, and the trails and green spaces of Russell Forest and Russell Crossroads are alive with the sound of laughter and camaraderie. We’ve got plenty of fun activities for you and your family to take part in while we’re waiting for the water to get warm enough to swim.

Meet us at the Wilson Road Trailhead throughout the month of April, as we celebrate the budding plants and flowers, and frenzied activity of Spring in the Russell Forest by getting up close and personal with nature. We expect to see and hear a variety of energetic songbirds and discover a wealth of other animals, wildflowers, and other developing plants. The woods will look, feel and smell different than it did all winter: come see the changes! This energetic hike will offer both learning and exercise. Appropriate for warmly dressed participants ages 5 – 105.

REGISTRATION REQUIRED! There is a $10 fee for this program. Please contact our Naturalist at 256-496-2710 to inquire and to register.

Comfortable, seasonally appropriate clothing and shoes are advised. Participants may also wish to bring bottled water, sunscreen and insect repellent. Binoculars and cameras are welcome.
