Runners at the 2016 Russell Forest Run 10K & 5K

By Robert Gunn, Race Director I had a chance this past weekend to get out and walk most of the Russell Forest Run 10K course. It had been a couple of years since I had actually taken the time to walk through a part of God’s country, admire the gorgeous scenery—yes, even in winter it is a wonderful place to walk or run—listen to the birds chirp, and hear the small creeks as they murmured nearby. So, what does this have to do with the Russell Forest Run?

Available properties "drying up" There is only one property per four miles of shoreline. That is how many waterfront homes and condos were for sale at the beginning of January 2017. Lake Martin has 880 miles of shoreline and there were only 189 “for sale” properties on the market. The number of available lake homes and condos are literally few and far between.

Family explores the bow of a new Nautique

Russell Marine was one of the largest exhibitors at the 46th Annual Birmingham Boat Show at the BJCC January 19–22. The show attracted more than 20,000 boating enthusiasts from the surrounding lakes, such as Logan Martin, Smith Lake, Lake Guntersville, and our very own Lake Martin.

If you're like many of us, you might be tired of winter's chill and bundle up to keep it out. Somehow, the critters in the Russell Forest seem unaffected, yet they wear the same "clothes" year round. How in the heck do they stay warm? Well, this month you can find out as Naturalist Marianne Hudson explores exactly that.
