8 Must-Haves For An Amazing Lake Martin Summer

Memorial Day Weekend marks the official kick off of summer, and we simply can’t wait for long, sun-filled days in and around Lake Martin. As you pack up the kids, the car, and yourself for the weekend – or the entire summer – we’d like to share a few must-haves from our own packing lists so you don’t forget a thing!

1. A camera. Even if you usually rely on your smartphone for photographs, we think a summer on Lake Martin calls for a real camera to capture the moments you’ll always want to remember.
2. Backpacks. Whether you load it up with bottles of water for an intense hike or lake paddle, or you pack up your towel, paperback and sunscreen for a leisurely afternoon on the dock, you’ll be glad you have a place for your lake essentials.
3. Sunglasses. Bright sunshine glistening on the lake is one of our favorite things, and so is protecting our eyes. Don’t forget your sunglasses – and the kids’!
4. Chargers for your devices. For those choosing to truly unplug, disregard this message. For everyone else, double check you have a charger for every device.
5. The right shoes. Lake Martin promises an array of activities and experiences for every age and passion – from boating and waterskiing to hiking, biking, golfing, shopping and dining. Double check that your footwear suits your adventure.
6. Roof rack. A summer’s worth of clothes and gear just might exceed your car’s capacity. Roof rack to the rescue!
7. Binoculars. Lake Martin and Russell Forest provide spectacular view of both landscape and wildlife. Get and up close and personal look at it all with a good pair of binoculars.
8. An extra bathing suit. There are few things that dampen a spirit the way putting on a wet bathing suit does. Our advice: bring an extra bathing suit (or two) for yourself and the kids. We promise you’ll be glad you did.
